Zi 自 Impression

Welcome to Sit With Chris! I’ll start off my introducing the root of everything (or nearly everything) that I do: Zi 自 Impression.

What is Zi 自 Impression? It’s a phrase that I like to use in my head to remind myself to take a step back, breathe, and then feel.

自己(zi ji): self.

Zi 自 Impression: impressions upon ourselves, or directly, “self impression.”

We are collectors and curators, but sometimes, we get lost or too busy to find the things we enjoy. We mindlessly go through our routines forgetting to express ourselves, and sometimes, even being afraid to express ourselves. We’re afraid we might make bad impressions of ourselves to others. That shouldn’t matter. The only thing that should matter is self impression. Who am I? What makes me me? By finding and rediscovering parts of ourselves that curate our self impression, we stand a little taller, a little braver, and much more confident.

Expression can be as subtle or loud as we want. With nails, you can showcase your mood with a simple color or present your personality with a little (or a lot of) nail art. For many, manicures are part of our identities. Colors and designs can be changed to fit who we are at the moment. And with each change, we add a little more to our collection of self impression.

So, my mantra?

Collect and curate inspiration. With it, find self impression.
